Copley Square

Copley Square is one of the most emblematic public spaces in Boston, MA. Surrounded by the Public Library, Trinity Church, and Boylston Street, the square is where people visit on a daily basis, and where special occasions like the Boston Marathon and the Mass Farmer’s Market take place. In the middle of the square, the Kahlil Gibran’s plaque stands defiant as it quotes Gibran himself, “It was in my heart to help a little, because I was helped much.” At a closer look, Copley Square also serves Boston’s homeless population as a hangout space, a sleeping quarter, and a place to rest during the day. With this dynamic of space usage, this photo essay tries to make visible the threshold of space occupancy between different people. By highlighting such threshold, I hope that a sense of harmony and empathy may also emerge.
